The Neon Moiré Selection — October 2016
Here are Neon Moiré’s top picks of design-driven events around the world for October 2016. Lots of graphic design events this month: we counted seven! Two of them are highlighted here: REDO – International Graphic Design Conference and Graphic Design Festival Scotland. Next to that there are festivals like Retune and Impakt who research the current influence of technology on our behavior through art and design. We’d say October brings us lots of inspiration and a ton of opportunities to discover new insights and meet new friends. Enjoy!
Berlin based Retune Festival is an experimental laboratory at the intersection of art, design and technology. The festival’s exhibitions, talks, and workshops are clustered around four main themes. Immersed Narratives: an exploration of the opportunities and pitfalls of narration in virtual and augmented reality. Neuronal Creation: about the implications of ever changing Artificial Intelligence on culture and society. Networked Transplantations: explores the new field of body extensions, transhumanist practice and networked senses. Creative Production: on how creative entrepreneurs get their prototype to serial production in every city.

Redo is an annual three-day event in Prishtina, Kosovo. This is the sixth edition, and brings together designers from around the world to create a discourse around current issues within the practice of graphic design. The third edition of Graphic Design Festival Scotland has a forward-thinking programme of workshops, talks, exhibitions, panel discussions, live projects, urban murals and music. The festival events are participation based to inspire young designers through active engagement. This edition marks the most ambitious programme of the festival and takes place in Glasgow.
We talked with Graphic Design Festival Scotland founders Beth Wilson and James Gilchrist (Warriors Studio) about the new short film program, on becoming festival organisers and how organising a festival influences their design practice. Read the interview
This five-day Dutch festival is in it’s 6th year. Impakt presents critical and creative views on contemporary media culture, through exhibitions, lectures and screenings at different locations in the city of Utrecht. Theme for this 2016 edition is Authenticity? Curators Barbara Cueto (1986, Spain) and Bas Hendrikx (1986, the Netherlands) show compelling new notions of authenticity from the perspectives of arts, technology and society. Questioning if authenticity still matters?

The Neon Moiré Selection
Neon Moiré Top Picks is where we present the best events for an upcoming month. For this selection we take in counter: the quality of the line-up, price, venue and side-event. What type of event is it, directed to all the nerds out there, one to meet new people or meant for a ton of inspiration, to return recharged. Furthermore we look at the richness of the conference city / area so we know you can stay longer or come earlier to discover new unexpected treasures.
