12 go-to events at Dutch Design Week 2016

From Saturday October 22nd the fifteenth edition of the annual Dutch Design Week lifts off in Eindhoven. Nine days, 100 locations and 2500 designers are presenting. We dove into the enormous programme and selected 12 events that are about so much more than just hardcore product design and you simply can’t afford to miss.

Bambooh Lala

22—30 October, 11:00 - 22:00, Ketelhuisplein

Creative agency HeyHeydeHaas designed a 'never finished' bamboo construction for Ketelhuisplein. The construction will connect everything and everyone at this central square on Strijp S. At the end of the day (between 5 and 8) the ‘Inwisselbar’ located in the centre of the bamboo structure will host a different party each night. Inwisselbar program

A seminar about big and open data from different perspectives as part of Age of Wonderland, questioning if Big data is the next exiting revolution or new oil?

For the fourth time DDW goes Digital. The theme of this edition is 'Where Digital Meets the Real World’. The boundaries between the digital and the real world are merging. The speakers will guide you through the world of virtual reality applications, wearables, connected products and the internet of things.

For Play, Shaping Sexuality

An exhibition that shows a playful, vulnerable, original view on today’s erotic landscape, dominated by porn and commerce. Co-curators Sanne Muiser and Tom Loois asked more than 30 artists and designers for alternative visions. Only during the Dutch Design Week the video-installation Guilty Landscapes by Dries Verhoeven will be on show as part of the exhibition.

Exhibition space and restaurant Kazerne is a cultural hot-spot. In this lively monumental building, you can explore several exhibitions, showcasing a selection of the best dutch designers or just enjoy one of their Mediterranean orientated meals. On Sunday October 23rd Kazerne host a design talkshow led by Jeroen Junte.

Modebelofte’, Dutch for ‘fashion promise’ presents around 30 progressive fashion talents recently graduated from the best international fashion courses in an extraordinary exhibition. Theme of Modebelofte 2016 is 'Adaptive Travelers'. The exhibition is curated by Hey Niek and Harm Rensink. The exhibition is on the spectacular roof of warehouse De Bijenkorf

On Sunday October 23rd a talkshow with a selection of the participating designers takes place at Van Abbemuseum from 14:00 till 16:00. Ticket € 5

For the fifteenth time during the Dutch Design Week Dutch Invertuals presents new works. Within the context of the future way of life this time designers explore the aesthetics and complexities of energy overload. The exhibition is curated by Wendy Plomp.

IKEA presents the limited STUNSIG collection made in collaboration with artistic duo Pinar&Viola. We can’t wait to see this. The collection will be available at IKEA stores from June 2017

The Making of Your World

For entertainment every day in the afternoon you can recharge with designers who take apart their favourite design-objects in a design anatomy lesson and will take you along their passion for their trade. We selected Joost Grootens + presentation dutch designers magazine Dude (Tue 25), Jeroen van Erp (Wed 26), Studio Mieke Meijer (Thu 27) and Thomas Widdershoven (Fri 28). The program is Dutch spoken only.

Vlisco 1:1 Un à Un

Till 12-03-2017, 12:00-17:00, Gemeente Museum Helmond — Entrance €7,50

This exhibition is not in Eindhoven, but since Helmond is only 20 minutes away it is an absolute must visit. Helmond-based textile factory Vlisco celebrates its 170th anniversary this year. The exhibition shows Vlisco's classic patterns, re-interpretations and new designs. The exhibition zooms in on four specific aspects: the company's history, production processes, design processes and use of the fabrics in fashion and art. Next to the Vlisco show the museum presents the work of the British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare MBE.
